Flying was cancelled :(

However. Due to bad weather the flying event was cancelled and I then had a free day to spend time with family.
In the evening, the day before the flight, I took a few moments to check the Met office website and look at the TAFs (Terminal Aerodrome Forecast). That morning the TAF showed 26022G35KT (Surface wind 260 degrees @ 22 knots Gusting 35 knots) due to this reading this ruled out the idea of flying on the Saturday. The Grob Tutor has a surface wind limit of 25kts so the ATC would be pushing it if they allowed us to go up in the air.
Instead of flying I decided to take part in the Vatsim Openskies Event of 2011. I was rostered originally for Gatwick Air Traffic Control on ground and delivery. As soon as I signed on at 1730Z (17:30 GMT) there were thirty aircraft on the ground Radar so as you can imagine I became very busy in a short space of time. Most of the North Terminal at London Gatwick was taken up so I had to move most of the British Airways to separate piers and sort out the gates for arriving aircraft.
The Vatsim Openskies 2011 was the biggest and coolest event of the year in Vatsim.
Here are the statistics from the event compared to last years and real world.
Also standby for a video on the Openskies.
Kind Regards
Dewi

I recently went flying with the Air Training Corps, Squadron 418 to RAF Woodvale (EGOW) fantastic flight but unfortunately was unable to take a camera up
Anyway I went for a flight the other night in a C172 from EGCK to EGGP via the Birkenhead VRP and WAL VOR (114.100) as a navigation source to get me to my destination. The Cessna 172 is a lovely aircraft and the flight dynamics in the model by Carenado are very realistic. I managed to get a couple of pictures so here they are :
Review – Flying Club Tomahawk from Justflight
Posted: November 30, 2011 Filed under: Uncategorized | Tags: Justflight, Review, Tomahawk Leave a comment »I recently purchased the Piper PA38 Tomahawk from Justflight so I thought I would do a quick and to the point review.
First off In my opinion Justflight have done a fantastic job with this model. The exterior of the aircraft is top notch with bump mapping which gives this aircraft an edge over the earlier models of the Tomahawk. The aircraft comes with various colours and country registrations so you can take your pick. It’s acts very realistic to the actual aircraft in Real world.
Flying this aircraft is a pleasure, within the first 5 mins of me flying it I was already getting used to the layout of the aircraft and the flight deck layout. I found one small glitch however, the glitch was with the propellor, once the aircraft was loaded up I found it to be too dark so much so I couldn’t see the horizon very much (which is what you need to see during VFR flight) I quickly posted about the problem I was having on the Vatsim UK forums and within 5 mins one of my friends gave me a solution which was an easy work around. If you wish to find out how I fixed this issue just comment at the end with your email and I shall send the new file to fix the glitch.
Aside from glitches that was the only problem I actually had. Everything onboard the PA38 works as it is meant to do, the flight dynamics are superb which makes it a fantastic bird to fly. However I do recommend a weight and balance before you take if off or make sure you set as little as weight as possible, weight and balance would be more realistic though.
It is very frame rate friendly too i was even running the full VFR Scenery and was having 40 fps.
I do highly recommend this aircraft to anybody interested in flying GA and VFR and likes a slow pace. It is worth every penny, just to prove that to you here are some pics.
Vagar (EKVG) – Keflavic (BIKF)
Posted: October 13, 2011 Filed under: Uncategorized | Tags: Airbus, tour Leave a comment »My dad and I lastnight went for a fly in the Airbus A320 from Vagar in the Faroe Islands to Kevlafic in Iceland.
It was a great flight with cloudy weather on our way, we climbed to flight level 300 which is 30,000 ft and it was very bumpy as we claimed in the small but fast aAirbusA319′s.
As soon as we were level we started the cruise. We were cruising for about one hour. Then the fms told us that we should start the descent, but the fms was wrong. We started out descent too early resulting in us becoming very low and ending up through a narrow valley with 5000ft mountains either side of us. It was a death trap
it was very dramatic as we came clear of the valley, then we started a left hand roll to establish on the ILS approach on to runway 29.
We established as normal and came in with 25 degree flap causing a lot of drag on our way down which was what we wanted because my dad and I were flying so close. My Dad landed perfectly and vacated just in time for my touch down. I landed bang on the touch down zone with about a -5 fpm landing rate. PERFECT !
It was a great flight and we then decided to take off to Greenland. The diary of that flight will be posted in a few days.
Many thanks and expect a few photos in due course.
Regards Dewi
